Should I get a kitten?

I have a dog (Russian Tsvetnaya Bolonka, aka little hairy dog) Charlie who is 10 months old. But when me or my boyfriend have to leave for work Charlie gets left alone. And he barks and barks and barks and howls out of loneliness. The neighbors have complained till they were blue in the face and we've tried to remedy the situation with Citronella bark collars, peanut er and cheese stuffed Kongs and everything in between. Sometimes my dad and his girlfriend will look after him when we are out of town and my Dad's girlfriend mentioned that Charlie has no problem being alone at their place as he is distracted by her two cats. So I was wondering if maybe getting a playful kitten would be the answer to Charlie's loneliness while we are at work. My friend Candace's cat is about to have kittens and I've discussed getting a playful female kitten from her. Just wanted to get a different take on the problem, see if anyone else had any other suggestions?
