.Rat Help.?

What can I do to convince my parents rats arn't vermin, and they're cute, and cool, and smart. Everytime i bring it up they just say "No, rats are vermin, you won't take care of them, and they are nasty filth that carries diseases." I've tried explaining pet-shop rats don't have disease and such, but they arn't listening.
