Does Apolo Anton Ohno identify as white or Asian?

His dad is Asian, and is separated from his white mother I believe. But the media treats him well; NBC called him "good looking" and showed him dating a blonde. Does that mean they think of him as white, because the media never compliments Asian men. It's sad because it seems most half-Asians in the West have to identify as white or black in order to be successful. At least he's Asian on his dad's side. Most athletes like JR Celski, Hines Ward, BJ Penn are Asian on their mom's side, which makes it even harder on Asian men in the West.
