Is it against any rules/etc to wear military rank without being in the military?

Rank shouldn't matter as long as you're not improvising a service member. I do believe that you're not supposed to wear the service name on the uniform, so if you are going' to wear an official Uniform like the new army uniform (ACUs) it may not bear the Name US ARMY on the chest.. same with the other branches of service.
